Columbia has introduced new hiking shoes that are ultra-modern and sporty. Sounds like my kind of shoe, but continue reading to see if you’re just as excited about these Columbia Facet Hiking shoes.

Columbia Facet Hiking Shoes

Too modern? It may be one of the best shoes to come out this year.

Facet is the name of the newest Columbia Hiking shoes and I’ve gotta say that when I first opened the email I was immediately thrown off track.

The hard angles and bright colors weren’t something I was expecting to see from Columbia. While brands like La Sportiva are known for being bright and bold, Columbia comes off as a little timider.

Well-known for its fishing gear, Columbia does make a handful of trail runners. They all are super squishy and typically have good tread on the bottom. And mindfulness about the water is a recurring theme.

The Facets are available in three different trims: Facet 15, 30, and 45. Each model offers different ankle heights with the 45 model featuring an ankle sock for extra support. They are also all available in men’s and women’s options.

Each model also offers a foot-cradling cushion, stabilizing heel, and a grippy outsole.

Trail running hiking shoes are definitely the preferred hiking shoes for this website, but when it comes to waterproof they’re not always necessary. Each of the Facet models has a waterproof exterior which is great for keeping water out but can also keep the water trapped inside. So it’s good to know that the Facet hiking shoes feature that OutDry technology from Columbia to allow the shoes to breathe and dry inside as well.

I’m intrigued to try out the various quick-lacing systems. You have the speed-lacing on the 30 and the very interesting Kinetic lacing on the 45. The Kinetic system doesn’t seem to support any laces at all, just two straps that are meant to mold to your feet more effectively.

The cushion and grip seem on par with other trail runners at this price point, but the FluidFrame technology seems closer to the Solomon ContiGrip. That mid-flex really keeps your feet from getting tired after a long day on the trail.
