If you’re wondering if there’s a national wildlife refuge near you, you’ll be happy to know there are 21 Texas National Wildlife Refuges. They all offer an opportunity to visit land designated to protect various wildlife, and also a great opportunity for hiking, birding, hunting and much more.
Just like the U.S. Corps of Engineer sites, the refuges are free to use for hiking, but check the location before you go to see if any portions are closed. Various headquarter buildings may still be closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic as of 07/20/21.
