Bastrop State Park announced on its social media channel it would be performing a controlled burn for forest management, but on January 18th 2022 it has been reported that the burn management lost control and started to spread.
“Bastrop State Park may be conducting prescribed fire on one or multiple days this week from Tuesday 1/18 through Friday 1/21 if conditions are favorable. If the weather and conditions are favorable for a prescribed burn to happen updates will be posted on our Facebook page the morning of the burn.”

News reports are saying that Highway 21 has been closed, and nearby neighborhoods are being evacuated.
According to Bastrop Fired Department fire is currently heading towards Lake Bastrop South.
